MANATEE Two companies have submitted proposals to supply Manatee County with new voting equipment, training and installation, officials said Thursday.
The companies are Dominion Voting Systems, of Denver; and Election Systems & Software, LLC, of Omaha, Neb., according to information given an evaluation committee that met for the first time Thursday at County Administrative Center.
The committee, appointed by County Administrator Ed Hunzeker, will choose which proposal it thinks is best, and negotiations on a contract will begin, said Frank Lambertson, a contracts negotiator for the county purchasing division.
The committee consists of Scott Farrington, assistant supervisor of elections; Carlos Gomez, senior systems administrator for the countys systems administration/operations division; and Dennis Wallace, representing the countys purchasing division, who is serving as chairman of the committee, Lambertson said.
Supervisor of Elections Mike Bennett could not be reached for comment, but he has said previously he hoped to buy equipment that would eventually permit multiple early voting sites in the county for the first time.
