Bradenton's Hally Leadbetter shot a 3-over-par 75 Wednesday in the first round of the 59th Harder Hall Women's Invitational at Harder Hall Country Club in Sebring.
Leadbetter trails leader Shelby Martinek, of Tempe, Ariz., by four shots. Martinek leads India Clyburn, of the United Kingdom, by one shot. Cristina McQuiston, of Sarasota, shot a first-round 79. Sarasota's Mary Ann Modrak came in with an 84. The 72-hole tournament will continue through Saturday.
The Golf Academy at Lakewood Ranch Country Club has a limited-space golf program designed for players 10 years old and younger. PGA Professional Jon Bullas created the program, which costs $100 a month and is held between 11 a.m. and noon each Saturday. Domenico Geminiani earned $1,000 for his victory Monday in the West Florida Golf Tour's event at Sara Bay Country Club. Geminiani posted a 1-under-par 71, which was tied with Sam Lyons. He then defeated Lyons on the first playoff hole.
The WFGT heads north to Brooksville for its first major of the 2014 season, when the famed World Woods plays host to the mini-tour. The WFGT returns locally next week at Lakewood Ranch Country Club's Royal Lakes course for a two-day event.
Bradenton's Nelly Korda and Mika Liu are in the field for the American Junior Golf Association's ANNIKA Invitational held at the Reunion Resort's Watson course scheduled for Jan. 17-20 in Reunion. The girls tournament kicks off the AJGA's 2014 season.

Recently at River Strand, Derek Sullivan aced the 187-yard 5th hole on the Estuary course with a 5-hybrid. Witnesses was Emily Sullivan.
Recently at Greens of Manatee, Donna Pote aced the 116-yard 12th hole with a 5-wood. Witnesses were Jean Clark and Chuck Rob.
