Bruins pull outanother close win
Marco Syed-Fisher nailed a pair of free throws with 6.9 seconds remaining in overtime as the Bayshore boys basketball team collected a 59-58 victory over visiting Gulfport Boca Ciega on Wednesday.
Syed-Fisher had 18 points, tying Justin Harris for team scoring honors for the Bruins (9-9), who have won four of five. Bayshore defeated Venice 43-40 on Wesley Jackson's last-second 3-pointer on Tuesday.
Thomas McDuffie pitched in 14 points and 10 boards for Bayshore.
BRADEN RIVER 53, BOOKER 49 -- Michael Braxton recorded 10 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots as the visiting Pirates held off the Tornadeoes in non-district action.
Isaiah Garret added 13 points, and Zechariah Kendall had 11 for Braden River (7-8), which led by as many as 17 points.
SAINT STEPHEN'S 9, SARASOTA 1 -- Matthew Jones had four goals and an assist as the visiting Falcons blitzed the Sailors.
Jorge Zavala had two goals and one assist, and Jeremy Jackman had two goals and four assists. Alex Virgilio added a goal and two assists, and Kyle Koughan had an assist for the Saint Stephen's (9-0).
BRADEN RIVER 1, PALMETTO 0 -- The Pirates made Carly Provan's goal early in the match hold up to improve to 14-2-2.
Katerina Elliott made four saves in goal and assisted on Provan's goal.
