With Lakewood Ranch growth, pedestrian bridge over S.R. 70 needed

January 9, 2014

Now that the development and expansion of Lakewood Ranch north of S.R. 70 is well under way, the need for a ramp-style bridge for pedestrians and bicycles to cross S.R. 70 is evident.

The intersection of S.R. 70 at Lakewood Ranch Boulevard is very wide, very busy and dangerous for pedestrians and bicyclists when crossing. The new development will make this intersection busier and even more dangerous.

Building a pedestrian bridge across S.R. 70 at Pope Road, which will become the road at the center of the new development, will keep Lakewood Ranch north and south from becoming islands for pedestrians and bicyclists.
