Mustangs edge Pirates in soccer

Lakewood Ranch's boys soccer team scored a key and dramatic win over its biggest rival Tuesday.

Ryan Sollazo's goal in the 78th minute was the difference as the host Mustangs beat Braden River 1-0 in a Class 4A-District 11 match.

William Bramley posted the shutout in goal for Lakewood Ranch (7-6-2, 7-3-2).

Ian Crawford had seven saves for the Pirates (7-5, 6-3-1).

PALMETTO 7, BAYSHORE 1 -- A big night from Gregorio Calvillo helped the Tigers cruise past the host Bruins.

Calvillo scored four times for Palmetto (14-2), which also received goals from Raul Loera, Brian Heredia-Tovar and Jesus Martinez.

Loera and Tyler Lawrence had two assists each, and Heredia-Tovar, Ben Espinal and Eduardo Martinez had one each.

Goalies Matt Simmonds and Andy Perez combined for four saves.

SOUTHEAST 1, CARDINAL MOONEY 1 --The Seminoles played the Cougars to a tie.

Jessie Martinez scored off an assist from Kiki Gallardo for the Seminoles (9-4-2).

Girls soccer

LAKEWOOD RANCH 4, TAMPA BERKELEY PREP 0 -- The Mustangs remained undefeated by posting a win on the road.

Julia Ortiz scored twice and Sophia Falco and Delaney Riggins added goals for Lakewood Ranch (17-0-1).

Falco and Riggins added an assist, while Juliana Guida and Julia Nordhasuen had assists for the Mustangs.

Alex Latham posted her 13th shutout.

MANATEE 7, VENICE 0 -- The host Hurricanes rolled past the rival Indians.

Meredith Roberts scored twice and added an assist, and Brianna Blethen, Jessica Schafer, Sarash Wasser, Shelby Wood and Becca Byrnes had goals for Manatee (9-4-1).

Clarissa Palmer had three assists, and Michaella Krebser, Kylie Ameres and Blethen added an assist.

Ashleigh Parker collected her fifth shutout for Manatee.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 5,BAYSHORE 2 -- The host Falcons got two goals each from Caroline Gregory and Lindsay Leskinen to beat the Bruins.

Kendall Miller scored and Kristi Jones had three assists for Saint Stephen's (10-1).

Boys basketball

BAYSHORE 43, VENICE 40 -- Wesley Jackson was the hero in the Bruins' win.

Jackson's 3-pointer with one second remaining clinched the win for Bayshore (8-9).

Jackson had 12 points and Justin Harris added 15 for the Bruins.

SAINT STEPHEN'S 54, ODA 45 -- The host Falcons evened their record overall and in district play with a win over the Thunder.

Sid Price and Omar Sammour had 14 points each and Jordon Murrell added 12 for Saint Stephen's (6-6, 2-2 Class 3A-District 10).
