Armed sex assault report spurred SWAT standoff in Sarasota

SARASOTA -- Two Sarasota men have been arrested by the Sarasota Police Department in connection with Monday's SWAT call on 17th Street in Sarasota.

Francisco Serrano, 28, of the 2000 block of 17th Street has been charged with felony sexual battery and felony and aggravated assault with a firearm.

Pastor Mendiola-Martinez of the 3000 block of Fruitville Road has been charged with felony sexual battery.

At 3:50 a.m. Monday, officers responded to the 2000 block of 17th in reference to an armed sexual battery. A firearm was used during the course of the crime.

Officers found weapons inside the warehouse/loft where Serrano was found. Officers worked with SWAT members to make contact with Serrano inside. Phone calls and bullhorn communication was used and Serrano was arrested without incident.

Mendiola-Martinez was arrested at his home off Fruitville Road.
