Sarasota police releases names of officers in fatal shooting

January 7, 2014

SARASOTA -- Sarasota police Tuesday released the names of two officers and the man they shot to death during a confrontation Sunday evening.

The officers, Terry Crenshaw and Adam Barlow, remain on routine administrative leave as police investigate the shooting that left Deacon Clark, 30, dead. Crenshaw and Barlow have been with the Sarasota Police Department since January 2012.

About 10:06 p.m. Sunday, Crenshaw and Barlow were on bicycle patrol near North Water Tower Park when they encountered Clark, police said.

"Crenshaw and Barlow said Clark had a gun in his hand and as they ordered him to drop the gun, Clark pointed the gun in a threatening manner at the two officers," police said in a news release Tuesday afternoon. "Crenshaw and Barlow fired, wounding Clark and continued to order at him to drop the gun."

Clark, of Sarasota, was pronounced dead at the scene.
