Man shot during drug deal in East Manatee

January 7, 2014

MANATEE -- A 22-year-old man Tuesday morning was shot in the ankle during an apparently botched drug deal in the parking lot of an East Manatee shopping center, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The victim told deputies that the shooter, who he did not know, was a passenger in his vehicle, "and they were negotiating a drug deal" when he was shot, a news release states.

The shooting happened about 10 a.m. in the 5200 block of 73rd Lane East, in the Creekwood Crossing shopping center, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office said the shooter has not been identified as the investigation continues.
