SCF, Herald initiate 'Community Conversations'

BRADENTON -- The State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota has partnered with the Bradenton/Lakewood Ranch Herald Editorial Board to launch a "Community Conversations" series on major issues of interest to the local community.

The first public forum focused on the Legislature's 2014 session will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, in the Howard Studio Theatre, Building 11 West, at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W.

The forum will feature Manatee County legislators such as state Sen. Bill Galvano and state Reps. Jim Boyd and Greg Steube. Conversations will be guided by SCF President Carol Probstfeld and Herald Editorial Page Editor Chris Wille.

The forums are free and open to the public. Public input is invited by emailing questions in advance to Wille at cwille@bradenton.com.

SRQ CEO Piccolo to give airport update Saturday

SARASOTA -- Guest speaker Rick Piccolo, president and CEO of the Sarasota/Bradenton International Airport, will discuss operations and changes at SRQ at an Airport Breakfast Update, 9 a.m. Saturday, at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3131 61st St., Sarasota.

Piccolo's presentation followed by question-and-answer session in the Fellowship Hall, $4 charge.
