Recap: BYU vs. San Diego

Provo, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Skyler Halford scored a game-high 28 points, leading four starters in double figures, as the BYU Cougars captured a convincing 87-53 win over the San Diego Toreros in West Coast Conference action at the Marriott Center.

Tyler Haws added 17 points for the Cougars (9-7, 1-2 WCC) as they snapped a four-game slide. Eric Mika pitched in with 13 points and Kyle Collinsworth 12 to go along with eight assists and seven boards in the triumph.

The Toreros (9-7, 0-3), losers of three in a row and four of five, were paced by Chris Sarbaugh who dropped in 10 points off the bench. The starting five for the visitors combined to shoot only 10-of-33 from the floor.

San Diego led by a basket at the 11:56 mark of the first half, but the team shot only 9-of-28 from the floor and 2-of-11 behind the 3-point line in the period, en route to a 41-23 deficit at the break. BYU converted 58.6 percent from the field in the period, 4-of-6 beyond the arc.

In the second half the Toreros again had their issues from the field (11- of-30) and missed on all six chances beyond the arc.

The Cougars easily controlled the glass to the tune of a 45-27 rebounding advantage.
