Recap: Old Dominion vs. George Mason

Norfolk, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Bacote scored 20 points as the Old Dominion Monarchs defeated the George Mason Patriots, 71-66, in a non- conference tilt at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

Dimitri Batten scored 13 points for ODU (6-9), Keenan Palmore and Richard Ross had 12 points apiece, with Ross bringing down seven boards as the team snapped a two-game slide.

Sherrod Wright scored 25 points for the Patriots (7-7). Bryon Allen chipped in 18 points and four assists, while Patrick Holloway had 10 points before fouling out. Johnny Williams accounted for 10 rebounds and eight boards before he too picked up his fifth personal foul.

The Monarchs shot 56 percent from the field and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc in the first half, helping to give ODU a 40-29 lead heading into the break. George Mason struggled only making 37 percent of its field goal tries and 1- of-5 from 3-point range.

ODU shot a poor 30 percent from the floor in the second half. George Mason made 41.7 percent of its field goal attempts.

The Monarchs picked up the win despite shooting only 18-of-35 at the free- throw line in the second half, 28-of-46 for the game overall.
