College Park, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Nick Faust finished with 16 points to lead the Maryland Terrapins to a 77-61 victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, in an Atlantic Coast Conference battle at the Comcast Center.
For the Terrapins (10-5, 2-0 ACC), Evan Smotrycz added 14 points, Dez Wells finished with 11, Seth Allen scored 10 and Charles Mitchell pulled down 11 rebounds.
Marcus Georges-Hunt led the Yellow Jackets (9-5, 0-1) with 11 points, while Trae Golden and Quinton Stevens each chipped in with 10.
Maryland opened the game on a 12-2 run stayed in control for the rest of the half as the Terrapins took a 43-29 lead at intermission. They shot 51.3 percent from the field in the half, including 7-of-12 from 3-point distance. Georgia Tech made 42.3 percent of its field goal tries in the opening period but just 1-of-3 from beyond the arc.
After the break, the Yellow Jackets struggled from the field, shooting just 35.3 percent and 4-of-16 from 3-point range. The Terrapins hit on 40.7 percent of their field goal tries in the second half. Maryland pushed its lead to as many as 20 points in the half, as they cruised to the easy victory.
The Terrapins outscored the Yellow Jackets 30-15 from 3-point range for the game. Maryland also had the slight edge on points in the paint, 34-32.
