BRADENTON -- The Mixon family will be hosting a luncheon Thursday to celebrate Mixon Fruit Farms' 75 years in business. They have invited many other family-owned business owners that have been in business more than 40 years, and guests including Florida Gov. Rick Scott, Bill Lupfer, president of The Florida Attractions Association, and Bill Herrle of the National Federation of Independent Business.

"We want to use this opportunity to recognize other families that have been in Manatee County for a long period of time," Janet Mixon said in a press release. Businesses including Cox Chevrolet, Costantino Body Shop, Sandhoff Construction and Smokey's Glass are among the luncheon's honored guests.

"Owning a business is hard and owning a family business is even harder," says Dean Mixon. "We have known and worked with most of these families for all my life, and many worked with my father, Bill Mixon, before me."

MYP holding network event, to collect school supplies

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Young professionals are invited to join Manatee Young Professionals members and guests for casual business networking from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Truman's Tap & Grill, 11161 SR 70 E.

MYP will be collecting school supplies to help re-stock a local elementary school that is in need. There is no cost for paid MYP members and $5 for all others. There will be free appetizers and a cash bar. No RSVP is necessary.

Manatee Habitat gets $30,000 grant from Publix

BRADENTON -- Manatee County Habitat for Humanity received a $30,000 grant from Publix Super Market Charities for the construction of Habitat home in Ellenton Hope Landing community. Hope Landing, when completed, will be home to 18 Habitat families.

Group closes 3 medical office leases in Manatee

MANATEE -- Sperry Van Ness Commercial Advisory Group closed the following medical office space leases in December in Manatee County:

• Family & Internal Medicine Associates, P.A. has leased 3,888 square feet of medical office space at 7915 U.S. 301 in Ellenton. Debra Cooper with Sperry's downtown Bradenton office handled the transaction.

• Renal Hypertension Center, LLP has leased 1,800 square feet of medical office space at 8614 S.R. 70 E. in Bradenton for nephrology. Stanley Heinlein and Joe Hembree Jr. with Hembree & Associates represented the lessee while Tony Veldkamp with Sperry Van Ness represented the lessor.

• Florida Surgery Consultants, LLC has leased 1,335 square feet of medical office space at 6320 Venture Drive, Suite 201 in Lakewood Ranch from Lakewood Ranch Associates, LLC. Debbie Anglin with Ian Black & Associates represented the lessor, while Linda Emery with Sperry Van Ness represented the lessee.
