Local roundup | Bayshore boys basketball team defeats Manatee

Demarco Fisher scored 19 points, and Wesley Jackson pitched in with 13 as the Bayshore boys basketball team came away with a 68-53 victory over visiting Manatee on Friday.

Jordan Pompey led the Hurricanes with 15 points. Bayshore improved to 7-9.

TAMPA JESUIT 54, CARDINAL MOONEY 52 -- The Cougars fell in the Bright House Sports Networks Invitational despite 19 points from Justin Najmy.

Ryan McMahon had 11 points, and Matt Hueston pulled down 10 rebounds for Cardinal Mooney (8-5).

Girls basketball

LAKEWOOD RANCH 60, RIVERVIEW 43 -- Freshman LaDazhia Williams poured in a career-high 27 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the host Mustangs improved to 15-2.

Kailyn Scully had six assists.

Boys soccer

LAKEWOOD RANCH 3, MANATEE 1 -- Felipe Dangond scored two goals and had an assist as the host Mustangs got past the Hurricanes and improved to 7-7-4.

Schmid Payen added a goal, and Ryan Sollazzo and Jake Dube added assists. Brandon Pratt made five saves for the victory.


SOUTHEAST DUALS -- Powerhouse programs Brandon, Lakeland George Jenkins and Tampa Jesuit got off to 5-0 starts during the first day of action.

Among local teams, Palmetto led the way by going 4-1, losing only to Jesuit by a 36-29 count. Southeast is 2-3, and Bayshore is 0-5.

Wrestling resumes at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Finals are set for 2 p.m.
