Bradenton police help guard DeSoto inmate at hospital

BRADENTON -- The Bradenton Police Department helped guard a prisoner Friday who was flown to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton from DeSoto County after he was badly cut in his neck by several other inmates at DeSoto County Correctional Institute.

"DeSoto County Correctional requested that one of our officers stand by with their guard until another guard could drive to the hospital from their facility," a Bradenton Police report indicated.

The prisoner was jumped by several other prisoners in DeSoto, and they cut his neck long and deep, the report states.

The prisoner was alert and was taken to surgery, according to the report.
