Longboat Key man arrested after 'brutal' domestic attack

January 2, 2014

MANATEE — Authorities say a Longboat Key man committed domestic battery against a female family member in a manner a witness described as “brutality.”

Christopher Wright, 47, who lives in the 700 block of Tarrwitt Drive, Longboat Key, grabbed the victim’s head and beat it against a bed’s headboard, according to a Longboat Key Police Department report.

The incident reportedly occurred in the 700 block of Tarrwitt Drive, Longboat Key, at 1:19 a.m.

The victim reportedly broke from Wright’s hold and ran into the living room where Wright cornered her and this time beat her head against a wall and a sofa.

The victim’s sister reportedly witnessed the battery and told a deputy she “couldn’t believe the brutality of the attack."

The sister pulled Wright off the victim, and he reportedly began shaking her head by her hair.

The victim broke free, ran to the basement and called 911, the report states.

Deputies arrested Wright walking two blocks from the home, according to the report.

The victim had redness on her scalp and many strands matching the victim’s dark hair were found at the scene, the report states. Two small children were also upset and crying, the deputy observed.

The victim reportedly told the deputy she has been beaten and abused by the defendant for years. She said she fears Wright.

Wright was released from the Manatee County jail Thursday after posting a $2,000 bond.

The victim told the deputy Wright said earlier in the evening “she was not fun,” the report states.
