Sarasota police investigating homicide

— Sarasota Police are investigating the slaying of a 50-year-old man.

Patrol officers were called out to the 2000 block of Fourth Street near East Avenue at about 4:25 a.m. Wednesday morning. When they arrived, they found a male victim who was pronounced dead at the scene after attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, police said.

The man is identified as Johnny A. Luna, officials said in a media release.

"The community is not in any danger," police said.

Portions of East Avenue and Fourth Street were shut down for several hours during the investigation.

No further information was released.
