Man knifed during late-night walk in Manatee

January 1, 2014

A man's decision to go for a late-night walk Tuesday left him hospitalized following a knife attack during an attempted robbery, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.

The 43-year-old victim was working at his shop in the 5900 block of 15th Street East when he decided to go for a walk around midnight, according to a sheriff's report. He headed south to 63rd Avenue East, then turned around to head back to his shop.

That's when a silver Nissan Altima pulled up next to him, and two men jumped out and approached him, the report states.

One of the car's occupants pulled out a small, silver knife and said, "give me your (expletive)," according to the report. The victim did not reply, and the man slashed his left arm three times with the knife.

The two men then got back in the car and fled north on 15th Street East.

The victim called a friend who gave him a ride to Manatee Memorial Hospital, where he received stitches and was then released, authorities said. According to the victim, no property was taken, the report said.

The two suspects are described as a man with tattoos on both arms and a tall, skinny man with black hair and a thick beard.

The investigation is continuing.
