Driver flees crashing into tree on I-75 in Manatee

January 1, 2014

— The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a driver who crashed into a cable barrier and a tree along Interstate 75, then fled on foot early Wednesday morning.

The driver was headed southbound on the interstate just north of Moccasin Wallow Road in a 2001 Ford F-150 some time around 4:21 a.m., according to an FHP report.

For some reason, the driver lost control of the truck and went off into the inside shoulder, colliding with the cable barrier, the report states. The vehicle continued in a southeast direction off the roadway, where it crashed into a small tree. The driver then fled on foot, investigators said.

Authorities found the vehicle facing southeast. No skid marks were found on the roadway, they said.

About 10 feet of cable barrier was damaged. Charges are pending in the case, investigators said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about the driver is asked to contact the FHP at 239-938-1800.
