Faces in business: Spurgeon A. Nisbett

January 1, 2014

Spurgeon A. Nisbett

Title: General Manager

Company: Hampton Inn and Suites, Bradenton-Downtown Historic District

What was the best business advice you ever received?

My father told me to always pay forward and give back to your community and church, and if I ever owned my own business, pay myself a salary.

If you could choose another profession, what would it be?

Radio Disc Jockey. I've been told I have a great voice for it and I did dabble a bit in that industry in my earlier years.

What's the biggest risk you have taken in your career?

I uprooted and moved my entire family from our hometown of Boston to Cincinnati, Ohio, for a job opportunity. We did not know a single person. It turned out to be a wonderful experience, a perfect stepping stone for my career in the hospitality industry, and we met lifelong friends, and purchased our first family home there.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you start?

I would start my travels in my own backyard; Florida would be my starting point. When I travel within the state, I take back roads to see what little gems I can find. I am still in awe of the unique treasured locations that I encounter.
