LONGBOAT KEY -- A magazine that features top destinations all over the world is honoring a local resort.

Travel + Leisure Magazine readers have ranked the Resort at Longboat Key Club among the world's top 500 lodging properties.

The 2014 readers' poll marks the 18th year the tourism industry magazine has compiled a list of the world's top 500 hotels.

"I am very pleased that The Resort at Longboat Key Club has been recognized by the Travel + Leisure readers as a top resort worldwide," said Jeff Mayers, the resort's general manager. "It speaks volumes to the quality of our service and the outstanding amenities that we have to offer. To be recognized alongside some of the most iconic resorts and hotels in the world is quite an honor."

Located on more than 400 acres, the resort features 45 holes of golf, numerous tennis courts, a 291-slip marina, a spa, eight distinctive restaurants and lounges and a private beach for guests.

"It's just an amazing, amazing place," said Tim Angelopulos, who owns a condo at the resort.

The Travel + Leisure designation caps a year of honors for the resort in 2013. In addition to being named a AAA Four-Diamond resort for the 30th consecutive year, the Longboat Key resort was named among Condé Nast's "Top 40 Florida Resorts" and received TripAdvisor's "Certificate of Excellence" award.

Other resorts in the area that made the list are The Sandpearl Resort on Clearwater Beach and The Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club in St. Petersburg.
