MANATEE -- Andrew Jennings, 24, has been in Manatee County less than one month.

But Jennings found himself in the Manatee County Jail Thursday on a charge of principal to burglary and petit theft, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report.

He was caught after he left his cell phone in the van he and another suspect were burglarizing, according to the report.

Jennings, who was in prison in Illinois for three years for multiple residential and vehicle burglaries, told authorities that he was the lookout for another suspect who went into a van looking for items to steal, a report states.

The burglary to the van occurred at around 4:10 a.m. Thursday in the 4700 block of 33rd St. W., according to the report.

The van owner saw someone inside his van he didn't know and, after confronting them and watching them sprint away, he called the sheriff's office.

Deputies determined a briefcase containing about $100 in property was taken, the report states.

But authorities also found Jennings found and tracked him down using it, the report states.

Jennings was unable to post a bond of $1,620 and was still in custody Thursday night, according to the sheriff's office website.
