Tire falls off in traffic after Manatee service call

December 24, 2013

MANATEE — A motorist reported her tire fell off her vehicle as she was driving at 5:34 p.m. Saturday after being serviced at a local business.

The woman told a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputy she had just received an oil change and tire rotation from a Midas Muffler outlet and was leaving when a loud sound came from her car.

She tried to go back to Midas Muffler, but the store was closed, according to a sheriff’s office report. The incident reportedly occurred in the area of First Avenue West and 75th Street Northwest.

The woman tried driving home but the front driver-side tire came off her car. A deputy who stopped to help her reported the tire in the front wheel well had no lug nuts on the rim or near the vehicle.

The front brake caliper was also reportedly laying on the ground.

The deputy reportedly found lug nuts scattered along the road in the lane the woman had come from. The bottom of the front driver side wheel well was bent from rubbing against the ground as she drove.

The deputy told the woman civil charges would have to be filed in the case.

The report does not say what Midas Muffler was involved. There are two in Manatee County, one on Cortez Road and one on Manatee Avenue West.
