Man arrested after yard explosion in Sarasota

SARASOTA -- After a noon explosion Monday outside of a house in Sarasota, a resident of the home has been arrested and charged with discharging a destructive device.

Authorities say no one was injured when, according to a Sarasota County Sheriff's Office report, Robert David Branchfield, 21, intentionally mixed certain liquids in a container to create an explosion behind the house in the 3900 block of Marlborough Place.

The Sarasota County Fire Department along with members of sheriff's office Hazardous Device team arrived at the scene and made the area safe, according to the report.
