Careless driving injures one in Sarasota pileup

SARASOTA — A four-vehicle pileup on Fruitville Road in Sarasota at 5:13 p.m. Saturday resulted in a serious injury.

Three vehicles were stopped for a traffic signal on westbound Fruitville Road when a fourth vehicle slammed into the rear of one, pushing them into each other, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

One passenger, an 83-year-old Sarasota man, was flown to Blake Medical Center where he is listed in serious condition, according to the report.

The driver of a vehicle that caused the accident was cited for careless driving, FHP reported.
