Jarrid Rhodes scored 18 points, and Dearius Washington pitched in with 12 points Saturday as the Palmetto boys basketball team collected a 70-46 victory over Estero in the first round of the Cape Coral Mariner Christmas Tournament.

Tre Clark had 10 points for Palmetto (10-1), which will meet either Mariner or Southwest Florida Christian Academy in the championship game at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

BERKELEY PREP TOURNAMENT -- Palmetto split a pair of games, dropping the championship contest 5-2 against Tampa Steinbrenner after defeating Tampa Jesuit 3-1.

Against Jesuit, the Tigers (13-2) got goals from Hunter Brown, Gregorio Calvillo and Ben Espinal. Brian Heredia-Tovar had an assists, and goalkeeper Matt Simmonds made five saves.

Espinal and Raul Loera each had goals in the final. Heredia Tovar contributed an assist, and Simmonds and Andy Perez combined for six saves.


SOUTHSIDE DUALS -- Hunter Reed (106) was undefeated (7-0) during the two-day tournament for Lakewood Ranch. Robert Collier (120), Tim Dwyer (132), and Zach Benghuzzi (160) were all 5-2 for Lakewood Ranch who finished 12th in the 20-team event.
