Accidental shooting leaves man hospitalized, Bradenton police say

December 21, 2013

— A man was hospitalized Friday night after he was shot by a person who was showing off a handgun, according to Bradenton police.

Authorities received "numerous 911 calls" about an armed subject in front of a residence in the 2200 block of 15th Avenue East around 11:09 p.m., according to a police report.

Arriving officers found the male victim inside with a single gunshot wound to the middle torso area.

Investigators say the suspect was showing the handgun off to the victim when it went off.

"The suspect admitted that the handgun was stolen and it has not been recovered at the time of this report," the police report states.

The victim was taken to Blake Hospital, where he underwent surgery and was in stable condition, police said.

No charges were immediately filed. The investigation is ongoing.
