MANATEE -- A 30-year-old Sarasota woman has been charged with operating a vehicle as an habitual traffic offender and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

Jessica Ann Campbell rear-ended a Toyota with her pickup truck at 3:46 p.m. Thursday at the junction of U.S. 301 and Ninth Street East, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Five people in the Toyota were taken to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center for their injuries, the report states.

The Toyota was stopped for a light behind an SUV facing south behind a red traffic light on Ninth Street East when Campbell drove her pickup truck into the back of the Toyota, pushing it into the SUV, the report states.

Campbell fled the area but she was chased by several witnesses to the crash, according to the report.

Campbell exited her pickup and ran south on Ninth Street East until she was found by a trooper in the 2800 block, the report states.

Campbell told the trooper she knew her driver license was revoked and was going to fix it Friday, the report states.

Campbell was arrested Thursday and remained in the Manatee County jail Friday in lieu of $5,000 in bond, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office website.
