December 18, 2013

MANATEE — Help from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office was required Tuesday after a 26-year-old Bradenton man reportedly assaulted his girlfriend for taking him to the emergency room.

The victim reportedly brought Peter Mirnyi to Manatee Memorial Hospital, 206 Second St. E. Mirnyi became enraged to learn he was at the emergency room and punched his girlfriend several times in the face in the parking lot, according to MMH security personnel who tried to restrain him.

A sheriff’s deputy in the MMH parking lot on an unrelated call tried to help restrain Mirnyi. He Tasered him once in the middle of the back to no effect due to his “excited state,” the deputy reported.

Even after Mirnyi was handcuffed and taken inside to the emergency room he continued to physically resist hospital staff and security. Before hospital restraints could be applied, Mirnyi broke the side rail of the bed causing $500 in damage.

Mirnyi was then restrained without further incident. He faces charges of domestic battery, resisting with violence and criminal mischief.

The victim did not require medical treatment.
