December 18, 2013

MANATEE -- A 32-year-old man Tuesday evening was treated at Blake Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the foot, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators aren't buying the man's explanation of how he was injured, and a report suggested the injury may have been self-inflicted.

The man told investigators he was walking in the 6700 block of Manatee Avenue West, when he felt a stinging sensation in his foot. He noticed he was bleeding so he went to Blake, where doctors determined he had been shot and called authorities, according to the report.

"Deputies attempted to find the crime scene but were unsuccessful," the report states. "The victim's account does not match the evidence.

The report also states the shooting may have been self-inflicted.
