Fuel truck driver disarms robbery attempt in Manatee

December 15, 2013

MANATEE — The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reported a 47-year-old fuel delivery man fended off an armed robbery attempt barehanded just after midnight Sunday at the Bradenton Shell Gas Station, 836 301 Blvd. E.

A fuel tanker for Eagle Inc. was delivering to a closed, dark Shell station at 12:11 a.m. As he was hooking up hoses to the station tanks, two suspects approached.

One walked up to the driver and pointed a semi-automatic pistol at him while demanding his watch. The victim reportedly yelled at the suspect and tried to grab the gun from him.

The suspect reportedly swung the gun striking the victim in the hand and then fled south from the scene with his cohort. The victim suffered a small cut to his hand but refused medical attention.

Canine units responded abut the suspects couldn’t be located, according to the report.

The suspects were described as two skinny males around 5-foot-9. The main suspect was wearing a ski mask, black shirt, possibly a tank top and dark shorts.
