Southeast wrestlers win tourney

Six Southeast wrestlers turned in 5-0 records Saturday as the Seminoles dominated the Wildcat Duals hosted by McKeel Academy in Lakeland.

Southeast defeated Haines City (45-21), Mulberry (60-9), Frostproof (59-4), Ridge Community (63-6) and McKeel (65-18).

Joey Fazio (132-pound weight class), Austin Bennett (152), Ricky Almodovar (160), Stephen Kelle (170), Gage Takacs (220) and Kane Takacs (285) swept their competition. Two other Seminoles, Larenz Green (138) and Darrien Grant (182/195) went 4-0.

ORANGE CITY UNIVERSITY TOURNAMENT -- Jesse Fulk (160-pound weight class), Caleb Rudisill (113) and John Baldwin (182) each went 5-0 as Manatee recorded a 3-2 record at a duals tournament.

The Hurricanes defeated Jacksonville Orange Park (50-24), Kissimmee Gateway (40-32) and Timber Creek (48-30). They fell to Orange City University (39-33) and champion Winter Springs (47-28).

CAPTAIN ARCHER MEMORIAL CLASSIC -- Robert McLachlan finished second in the 195-pound weight class and led Palmetto to an eighth-place finish at the 18-team tournament hosted by Punta Gorda Charlotte.

McLachlan went 3-1. Tigers Aaron McDaniel (106), Anthony Viscomi (126) and Chase Washington (145) each went 4-1 and finished third. Tyler Montague (120) was fourth and went 2-2, and Bradley Dickerman (132) placed sixth after going 3-2.

JERRY MITA INVITATIONAL -- Hunter Reed and Robert Collier each went 4-1 and placed third at the 22-team Jerry Mita Invitational at Pinellas Park.

Reed, a freshman who wrestles at 106 pounds, and Collier, a 120-pound senior, led the Mustangs to ninth place. Sophomore Dylan Cameron (126 pounds) went 3-2 and finished fourth.

Boys basketball

SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 72, CARDINAL MOONEY 63 -- The host Cougars fell to 5-2 despite 21 points and six steals from Ryan McMahon. Justin Najmy contributed 15 points, and Blair Perry had seven points and six assists for Cardinal Mooney.
