Orlando biomedical tech firm lands $7.3 million
ORLANDO -- An Orlando-based health-care technology firm has landed another multimillion-dollar venture capital prize, this time from investment firms in Silicon Valley and the Tampa Bay area, the company said Tuesday.
Vestagen Technical Textiles Inc.'s latest financing totaled $7.3 million from Sofinnova HealthQuest
Capital, based in Menlo Park, Calif., and Clearwell Group of Tampa, officials said.
Vestagen and its team of manufacturing partners design and produce "germ-proof" hospital scrubs and other bacteria-resistant, health-care wear.
The clothing is based on microscopically engineered and biochemically treated fabric called Vestex.
The latest money brings Vestagen's total venture take to $15.5 million in 2013, one of the biggest biomedical venture investments in Florida this year.
The latest financing is expected to support the expansion, commercialization, regulatory approval and production of Vestex.
Over the next two years, it plans to add 30 jobs in management, administration and sales.
