MANATEE -- A man thwarted a carjacking attempt early Wednesday, but not before his assailants cut him with a knife, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 12:30 a.m., the victim was leaving work in the 1100 block of Cortez Road West, when he was approached by three suspects, according to a news release.

The assailants tried to remove the victim from his car and when he resisted, they cut him with a knife, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim was able to leave the area and drove himself to a family member's house. The relative then drove him to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, the sheriff's office said.

The victim received several stitches for his injuries, according to the report.

Deputies could not locate the assailants, the sheriff's office said.
