December 11, 2013

MANATEE -- Three juvenile suspects in a Sarasota carjacking were arrested late Tuesday in Bradenton, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 8:17 p.m., Sarasota police responded to a report of a carjacking in the 1200 block of Fruitville Road.

The victim was carrying groceries into his residence, when he was approached by three people -- one of whom implied he had a gun -- who demanded he hand over the keys to his vehicle. The victim complied and the suspects fled in the car, according to a sheriff's office news release.

The victim was not injured.

At about 9:14 p.m., a Manatee sheriff's deputy located the vehicle in the 5300 block of 14th Street West. Before making a stop, deputies followed the car to a residence in the 5400 block of 16th Street West, where they arrested the five people, all juveniles, who were in the car.

"Three of the subjects in the car were identified as the suspects that carjacked the vehicle and were charged with armed carjacking. The other two juveniles not identified were charged with trespass in a conveyance," the sheriff's office said.
