Life insurance scamster bilks woman of $3,200

December 9, 2013

MANATEE — Authorities say a 90-year-old woman was bilked out of $3,200 by a “clean-cut” young man posing as a life insurance salesman.

The crime occurred in June, but was just reported Friday to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, according to a sheriff’s office report.

The victim lives in Twin Oaks Mobile Home Park, 4530 Ninth St. E., reportedly told deputies she bought a policy for $3,200.

After giving the young man a check she never received a policy, any information regarding the policy or the identity of the salesman, according to the report.

The sheriff’s office is seeking the suspect to face a charge of exploitation of the elderly.
