Local roundup | Palmetto wrestlers place 2nd, Manatee third at Gary Freis Duals in Fort Myers

The Palmetto and Manatee wrestling teams came up with big performances Friday and Saturday at the 16-team Gary Freis Duals hosted by Fort Myers High.

The Tigers, led by Robert McLachlan's eight pins, finished second, while the Hurricanes, led by Jesse Fulk's Heavyweight Most Outstanding Wrestling output, came in third. Both teams went 7-1, losing only to champion Punta Gorda Charlotte.

McLachlan swept through the 195-pound division for Palmetto. Tyler Montague (120 pounds) also went 8-0 for the Tigers. Aaron McDaniel (106), Anthony Viscomi (126), Bradley Dickerman (132) and Chase Washington (152) all went 7-1.

Fulk went 8-0 in the 160-pound class for Manatee. Caleb Rudisill (113), Tyrek Hoyte (132) and Dakoda Dossey (170) also went 8-0 for the Hurricanes. Marshall Craig (106), Tim Dinsdale (138) and John Baldwin (182) went 7-1.

Lakewood Ranch went 4-4 in the tournament and placed eighth. Tim Dwyer (132) and Jared Dipsiner (138) each went 8-0 for the Mustangs. Dylan Cameron (126) was 7-1.

EAST LAKE INVITATIONAL -- Southeast wrestlers placed ninth in the 23-team tournament with 109 points. Brothers Gage Takacs (220 pounds) and Kane Takacs (285) placed first, and Ricky Almodovar (160) was second.

Boys basketball

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 70, BAYSHORE 60 -- Five Panthers scored in double figures as host Bradenton Christian overcame the Bruins.

Coleman Barber poured in 18 points to lead the way for BCS (2-3), and Jake Lister, Ryan Leunk and Vincent Rehfeldt had 13 points apiece. Damien Gordon contributed 12 points. Leunk had 10 rebounds.

Bayshore got 20 points from Wesley Jackson and 13 from Justin Harris.

Girls basketball

LAKEWOOD RANCH 65, RIVERVIEW 26 -- Emily Bulfin scored 16 points, and LaDazhia Williams recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds as the visiting Mustangs stayed perfect at 9-0.

Bulfin had eight steals, and Kailyn Scully came up with 10 points and six steals for Lakewood Ranch.

BAYSHORE 39, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 34 -- JoJo Muldoon led the way with 16 points as the visiting Bruins got past the Panthers (4-5).

Katie Swaagman led BCS with 15 points, and Cali Gelston had seven rebounds. Bayshore also got 11 points from Niesha Brown.
