Police search for man accused of pointing AK-47 at houseguest

HERALD STAFF REPORTDecember 7, 2013

— Police were searching Friday night for a suspect who allegedly pointed an AK-47 assault rifle at a visitor in his home, robbed him and later fled.

A man told police he had gone into the restroom at a residence in the 600 block of 10th Avenue West sometime around 4:54 p.m. and when he came out, one of the home's residents, an adult male, pointed the AK-47 at him and demanded his possessions be put on the kitchen table. The victim complied and was kicked out of the home. He then ran to phone the Bradenton Police Department.

Officers arrived within minutes and surrounded the home. The suspect's mother arrived and would not permit officers inside but said she would "check" if anyone was inside, according to a police report.

"Five minutes later, the mother came out and said no one was there," the report states.

The woman refused to let officers inside, so a detective secured a search warrant for the home and SWAT officers were brought in. A search of the home turned up a rifle and narcotics residue, but the suspect could not be located, police said.

The search for the suspect is ongoing.
