Bradenton proof of the value of the arts

December 7, 2013

In other economic development news, this week the Bureau of Economic Analysis put a solid figure on the value of the arts for the first time. The bureau, part of the Commerce Department, determined arts and culture contribute $504 billion to the gross domestic product, roughly 3.2 percent of the total.

That comes as no surprise to communities such as Bradenton, which staged a public visioning process that led to the creation of Realize Bradenton and the development of Riverwalk. Culture's value extends beyond dollar figures, adding significantly to a community's quality of life and nurturing a creative culture.
