MANATEE -- A Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputy captured a suspect after a stolen car pursuit.

The incident began at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Bayshore Gardens Parkway and U.S. 41 and ended shortly after at 12th Street West and 60th Avenue West, according to a sheriff's office report.

The deputy was on his way to an alarm call when he saw a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a man later identified as Richard Potere, the report states.

The deputy reported that Potere crashed into four separate vehicles at Bayshore Gardens Parkway and U.S. 41 before racing north, the report states.

The deputy was able to catch up to Potere at 12th Street West and 60th Avenue West, where Potere crashed the Silverado into a perimeter fence owned by Perkin's Restaurant, according to the report.

Potere resisted multiple attempts to be arrested and the deputy finally resorted to firing his stun device twice, striking Potere in the back, the report states.

The report indicates that the deputy was injured in the incident.

Potere slipped out of handcuffs once, kicked out the rear window of the patrol car and exited the vehicle, the report states.

A short foot chase ended with Potere being retaken into custody.

The vehicle Potere was driving was reported stolen on Thursday, according to the report.

Potere's jail information, including bond status, was not immediately on the sheriff's office website.
