Bradenton man shoots his caretaker

MANATEE -- A Bradenton man late Wednesday shot his medical caretaker when he was awakened by a noise and saw someone go into his bedroom, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. at an apartment in the 4500 block of Ninth Street West, according to a news release.

The 48-year-old man, who has a medical condition, said that after he was awakened, he grabbed his gun, which he keeps next to his bed and fired at the person, who turned out to be one of his caretakers, the report states.

The caretaker, who is 39, was shot once in the midsection. He was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

No charges have been filed, as the case remains under investigation, according to the sheriff's office.
