Local roundup | Lakewood Ranch girls soccer finally gives up goal, still wins

The Lakewood Ranch girls soccer team gave up its first goal of the season, but it cruised to a 3-1 victory over host Venice in Class 7A-District 10 play.

Mustangs goalkeeper Alex Latham missed the first half, during which the goal was scored, because of illness.

Anne Trefil, Maria Miller and Talia Falco scored the goals for Lakewood Ranch (9-0-1, 7-0-1). Falco, Lindsay Martinez and Nicole Langley had assists.

SOUTHEAST 3, BAYSHORE 1 -- Daryl Bell recorded a goal and an assist as the visiting Seminoles (7-1, 2-0 Class 3A-District 9) defeated the Bruins. Emily Ingram and Samantha Cline also scored for Southeast.

BRADEN RIVER 7, PUNTA GORDA CHARLOTTE 0 -- Kayla Gray came up with three goals and three assists to lead the host Pirates to victory in Class 7A-District 10 action.

Carly Provan added two goals, and Elizabeth Shirey and Ashlyn Shellentrager had a goal apiece for Braden River (8-1-2, 6-1-2).

MANATEE 8, ST. PETERSBURG 2 -- Michaella Krebser scored two goals and had two assists, and Meredith Roberts and Clarissa Palmer scored twice apiece as the host Hurricanes defeated the Green Devils in Class 8A-District 8 play.

Brianna Blethen added a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes (6-2-1, 3-0-1). Sydney Morrow also notched a goal, and Jessica Schafer and Sydney Cornell contributed two assists apiece. Kylie Ameres also had an assist.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 5, IMAGINE SCHOOL OF NORTH PORT 0 -- The lights didn't come on in North Port, so the Panthers settled for a victory in one half of action to move to 3-2-2.

Emily Malcom had three goals and an assist, while Madison Allen and Madison Cusack had goals for BCS. Allen addied an assist, and Lindsey Hahn had two. Alex Watson made three saves.

Boys soccer

BRADEN RIVER 1, PUNTA GORDA CHARLOTTE 0 -- Mario Lopez scored the match's lone goal on an assist from Mitchell McCormick as the visiting Pirates improved to 3-2-1, 3-1-1 in Class 7A-District 10 play. Ian Crawford made five saves for Braden River.

ST. PETERSBURG 3, MANATEE 1 -- Jacob Titsworth scored the host Hurricanes' lone goal on an assist from Luis Garcia as Manatee fell to 3-4-1, 1-3 in Class 8A-District 8.

OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 2, SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 1 -- Tait Lystad and Francisco Marcanos-Santos to lift the visiting Thunder to victory.

Boys basketball

CARDINAL MOONEY 66, SAINT STEPHEN'S 25 -- Ryan McMahon had 15 points, eights assists and five steals to lead the visiting Cougars (2-1, 2-0 Class 3A-District 10) over the Falcons.

Other contributors were Blair Perry (10 points, four assists), Nick Peacock (seven points) and Matt Hueston (six points, seven rebounds). Omar Sammour had 12 points to lead the Falcons. Jacob Westberry added six.

SARASOTA MILITARY ACADEMY 73, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 45 -- Carter Akins scored 20 points to lead the Eagles over the host Thunder.

Girls basketball

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 46, IMAGINE SCHOOL OF NORTH PORT 32 -- Sophie Giardina led the way with 23 points and nine steals as the visiting Panthers (3-4, 1-1 Class 3A-District 10) got a victory. Katie Swaagman added 14 points and eight steals.
