Woman taken to hospital after driving into Hudson Bayou in Sarasota

The driver was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.December 3, 2013 

SARASOTA -- A woman was treated for minor injuries after driving off the road and into Hudson Bayou, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

The woman was driving south on U.S. 41 in front of Sarasota High School just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday when she lost control of the car, drove off the road, through some bushes and into the water, according to a news release.Witnesses who were driving behind the woman told police that she had been swerving between lanes just before the accident.

There was damage to a water/sewer pipe as a result of the accident but the extent is not yet known.

Traffic was re-routed and one southbound lane was closed while a heavy-duty tow truck pulled the car out of the bayou. The road was re-opened just before 2 p.m.

The accident is still being investigated.
