MANATEE -- A 22-year-old Palmetto man was in the Manatee County jail Monday, charged with using his vehicle as a weapon.

Manvel Lee Canady , who lives in the 3000 block of Canal Road, was driving north in the 3000 block of 16th Avenue East, Palmetto, when he intentionally rammed the rear of another vehicle multiple times, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office arrest report.

The 24-year-old man and 25-year-old woman in the car drove to the Palmetto Police Department where Canady followed, leading to his eventual capture by Palmetto police about a block east of the police station, the report states.

Canady told a Palmetto officer that he and the female occupant of the vehicle he rammed have been dating for 11 months and she is pregnant with his child, the report states.

The woman, however, told the officer that she and Canady have never been in a dating relationship and were friends only, the report states.

Canady was charged with aggravated assault and was being held without bond at the Manatee County jail.
