Sheriff: Resident shoots burglary suspect in Bradenton

MANATEE -- One of three suspects in a Manatee County burglary was shot by the burglary victim, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The burglary and shooting took place at 9 p.m. Sunday in the 4900 block of 24th Street West, according to a news release.

According to the victims, the suspects entered the residence and took a television, the report states.

As they were leaving, one of the victims, a 26-year-old man, grabbed a handgun and fired several shots at the suspects, according to the report.

The suspects returned fire before leaving the area, the report adds.

Deputies later learned that one of the suspects, a 26-year-old man, was being treated at a local hospital for the gunshot wound, according to the report.

No charges have been filed in the case, which is still under investigation, but detectives do not believe this was a random incident, the report concludes.
