MANATEE -- A Palmetto man has been charged with firing a gun at his estranged wife during an argument, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 9:05 a.m. Sunday, William O'Neill, 58, arrived at a residence in the 100 block of 58th Street East, Palmetto, and got into an argument with his estranged wife, according to a news release. Both O'Neill and the woman were intoxicated, according to the report.

During the argument, O'Neill went out on the patio while saying, "I'm going to kill you," the sheriff's office said.

While outside, O'Neill grabbed a rifle, stood in the entry way of a sliding glass door about 5 to 7 feet away from the woman and fired one into the wall behind where she was sitting, according to the report.

O'Neill then fled in his pick-up truck.

O'Neill was later arrested on a charged of aggravated assault with a firearm, according to the sheriff's office.
