Woman's purse snatched at Sweetbay in Bradenton

HERALD STAFF REPORTNovember 29, 2013

BRADENTON -- A woman was robbed of her purse outside a Sweetbay Supermarket on Friday evening, authorities report.

The 45-year-old victim and her son had just exited the grocery store, 2501 Cortez Rd. W., around 9:50 p.m. when an unknown suspect came up behind the woman and grabbed her purse, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The woman held onto the purse, but the suspect yanked at it hard enough to knock the woman to the ground, deputies said. The man fled west with the purse across 26th Street West and into Orange Grove Mobile Home Park, according to the sheriff's report. The woman was unhurt, the report states.

Patrol and K-9 units flooded the area but could not find the suspect, described as about 6 feet tall with a few days' growth of facial hair. He was wearing a red shirt, a light gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, according to the report. The stolen purse was brown.
