Thanksgiving soccer tournament moved

Organizers abruptly moved the site of the Nike Thanksgiving Soccer Tournament from Lakewood Ranch to Clearwater, causing at least two local boys soccer teams to alter their schedules.

Defending champion Palmetto and Braden River will not attend the tournament, held for the past two years at Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch. The two teams will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Palmetto to make up for one of the matches they will lose as a result of not attending the tournament.

Palmetto head coach Dustin Dahlquist said he received an email early Thursday saying the tournament, to be held Nov. 25-28, was being relocated to Countryside High School in Clearwater. The team could not rearrange its travel plans on such short notice, he said.

"It's kind of disappointing that we can't defend our title," Dahlquist said.
