BRADENTON -- Our Daily Bread, 701 17th Ave. W., will be serving its annual community Thanksgiving meal on Sunday this year.

Traditionally, it's been on the Saturday before the holiday, but Kitchen Manager Penny Goethe had personal business to attend to and made the switch.

"We'll probably go back to Saturday next year," she said Thursday.

The organization serves an average of 250-300 people daily, according to Goethe, but close to 400 are expected for the Thanksgiving meal.

It will be served from 10-11:30 a.m. Sunday.

"Or until everbody is fed," she said.

They'll enjoy traditional turkey with stuffing, sweet potatoes or mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie or sweet potato pie.

While Our Daily Bread is all set with food and supplies for Thanksgiving, there is concern about the Christmas meal. It will be served on Wednesday, Dec. 25.

"It's just been harder this year and donations are down," said Goethe, who has been with the organization six years, five as kitchen manager. "I'm a little worried looking ahead."

The Manatee County Food Bank and area churches are Our Daily Bread's principal benefactors.
