Police: Bradenton man shoots himself while cleaning gun

BRADENTON -- A 62-year-old Bradenton man accidentally shot himself in the hand Tuesday afternoon, according to a Bradenton Police Department report.

About 2:27 p.m., the man was cleaning his gun when the gun went off, sending a bullet through his left hand and into his knee. The shooting happened in the 3600 block of Summerwind Circle, according to the report.

The man wrote a note to his wife and told her he was driving himself to Blake Medical Center Tuesday, according to the report.

Once the man arrived at Blake, police were called since it was a shooting, the report states.

The victim's condition was not immediately available.
